University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle are aiming for nothing less than the ?three-peat? as the UAAP tennis competitions unfurl this weekend at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The Tigers faces the debuting National University in the first match on Sunday, 9 a.m. in the men?s competition as they look to add to their 14 titles this season.
The Lady Archers, on the other hand, go up against their perennial rival UST at noon with both teams each having five titles during the last 10 seasons.
UST?s Ralph Kevin Barte and De La Salle?s Ma. Regina Santiago return for their respective squads this year after taking home last season?s Most Valuable Player award in the men?s and women?s division respectively.
Also slated on Saturday is the men?s matches between Ateneo and University of the Philippines at 9 a.m. and De La Salle against University of the East at noon. The women?s match between Ateneo and UP will also be played at noon.
Aside from the tennis event, the UAAP volleyball tournament will also resume on Sunday at the FilOil-Flying V Arena.
The UAAP also announced on Wednesday the postponement of the softball and baseball opening this weekend and instead will be scheduled on January 11 and 12 respectively.
In the NCAA, the volleyball competitions will resume on Friday after the Christmas break with Lyceum of the Philippines University taking on San Beda and San Sebastian battling Emilio Aguinaldo College in the juniors, women?s and men?s division at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The games were supposed to be played Wednesday but were postponed due to the unavailability of the venue.
